Kenya’s Deaf U23 Football Team Begins Its Journey to the World Championship
In May this year, something remarkable will happen for Kenyan sports.
A team of talented Deaf footballers will travel thousands of kilometers to represent Kenya at the World Deaf Under-23 Football Championship in Siberia.
Even more inspiring?
Kenya will be the only African nation sending a team to this global competition.
For the Deaf Football Federation of Kenya (DFFK), this moment represents more than just a tournament. It represents opportunity, recognition, and a powerful message that talent knows no barriers — including hearing ability.
But every great journey begins somewhere.
The National Selection That Brought Kenya’s Best Together
Before stepping onto the world stage, Kenya had to find its best.
Deaf Football Federation of Kenya successfully conducted national team selections, bringing together talented Deaf footballers from across the country.
These young athletes travelled from different regions of Kenya — many of them students representing their schools — united by one dream: to wear the Kenyan colors and compete on the world stage.
The selection process was intense.
Players demonstrated skill, discipline, teamwork, and resilience.
From this pool of incredible talent, 22 outstanding players were selected to form Kenya’s squad for the upcoming championship.
Each of them represents not just themselves, but the future of Deaf sports in Kenya.
Overcoming Challenges — Even the Weather
Sport often teaches resilience, and this selection was no exception.
Heavy rains made it difficult for the federation to access ideal training facilities during the selection period.
In the spirit of community and support, Highway Secondary School generously offered their playing field so the trials could continue.
Although the field conditions were muddy and slippery due to the rains, the determination of the players never faded.
If anything, the challenging conditions revealed something powerful:
true talent rises even when the ground beneath it is uncertain.
Despite the weather and the difficult pitch, the selection was completed successfully.
And from that determination, Kenya’s Deaf U23 national team was born.
A Proud Moment for Kenya
The Kenyan government has already stepped forward to support the team’s travel and accommodation for the championship in Siberia.
This support ensures that Kenya will proudly stand among the nations competing at the global event.
For the Deaf Football Federation of Kenya, this recognition marks a significant step forward in advancing inclusive sports and equal opportunities for Deaf athletes.
But preparing a team for the world stage requires more than just travel arrangements.
It requires training, preparation, and support.
The Road to Siberia: Preparing for the World Stage
Now that the team has been selected, the next important phase begins — the pre-camp training program.
This camp will allow the players to train together, build chemistry, and prepare physically and tactically for the international competition ahead.
However, unlike the tournament itself, this preparation phase currently has no sponsorship support.
At the moment, the pre-camp is self-sponsored by the federation and the players themselves.
Yet the vision goes beyond this single tournament.
The Deaf Football Federation of Kenya hopes to develop and nurture these young talents, many of whom are still students with enormous potential both in sport and in life.
With the right support, these players could become future champions, role models, and ambassadors for inclusive sports in Kenya.
An Invitation to Partners and Supporters
Moments like this create opportunities not just for athletes, but for organizations and individuals who believe in the power of sport.
The Deaf Football Federation of Kenya warmly invites partners, sponsors, and supporters who would like to be part of this journey.
Supporting Deaf football is more than sponsorship — it is an investment in talent, equality, youth development, and national pride.

Whether through sponsorship, training support, equipment, or partnerships, your contribution can help these athletes prepare for the world stage and continue developing Deaf sports in Kenya.
Together, we can ensure that the journey to Siberia is only the beginning.
A Team Ready to Represent a Nation
From muddy pitches to the world championship stage, the journey of Kenya’s Deaf U23 football team has already begun.
These young athletes carry with them determination, discipline, and a powerful dream.
In May, when they step onto the international field in Siberia, they will not just represent themselves.
They will represent Kenya, Africa, and the limitless potential of Deaf athletes everywhere.
And this is only the start
Looking Ahead to 2031: Building Toward a Historic Moment
The journey of Kenya’s Deaf football team does not end in Siberia.
In fact, it is only the beginning.
The Deaf Football Federation of Kenya would also like to extend its sincere appreciation to the Government of Kenya for granting approval for Kenya to host the 6th World Deaf Football World Cup in 2031.
This decision is a major milestone not only for Deaf sports but for the entire sporting community in Kenya.
Hosting the world in 2031 will place Kenya at the centre of global Deaf football and provide a platform to showcase the talent, determination, and resilience of Deaf athletes.
The selection of the U23 national team today is therefore part of a much bigger vision.
By giving young players the opportunity to compete internationally now, Kenya is laying the foundation for a stronger, more experienced national team by the time the world arrives in 2031.
These players are not just preparing for one championship.
They are the future faces of Kenya’s Deaf football movement.
With continued support, development, and partnerships, the dream is clear:
to welcome the world to Kenya in 2031 with a team that has grown, matured, and is ready to compete at the highest level.
