Our History

DFFK has its offices located at Moi International Sports Centre, Nairobi which is about eight kilometres east of Nairobi centre. It derives its name Kenya Football Federation of the Deaf (KFFD) in earlier 2005.

The desire by Deaf adults and school leavers both men and women to showcase and prove their soccer talents arouse in 2004 when most Deaf men who converge in towns could be seen joining hearing football teams to be given opportunity to showcase their prowess in this beautiful game.

As years passed, they realized the need to have their own football team made of the Deaf due to the nature of officiating rules when playing with and playing for hearing teams. The Deaf wanted to own teams where they would express themselves as well as take the lead in the growth, development and managing football amongst themselves.

Due to the nature of Deaf population distribution which is not dense within the towns, quite number of Deaf from rural were seen in towns seeking employment opportunities while others were residents of those towns so mostly during school holidays they would converge, this saw KFFD hold its first tournament at Karen Technical Institute for the Deaf in 2005, various teams grouped to showcase their talents.

The determination of the federation can best be illustrated by the efforts which saw us winning the staging the first national edition 2006, in Nakuru that attracted eight regional teams.

Today the federation has reached quite number of footballers across the country who play in various regional club levels.

Our Philosophy

The overall goal of DFFK is to stimulate awareness and involvement of the community in creating sustainable solutions for Deaf children's and youths. The youth who make DFFK are committed to being catalysts in the process of empowerment through sharing of skills, knowledge and expertise.

The work of DFFK is guided and inspired by our slogan, "The Sound of Deaf Football is Loud Enough for Us"

Achievements & International Participation

International Recognition

Through the efforts of DFFK, many Deaf Individuals have been able to see a future amidst the challenges. Our athletes have represented Kenya in various international competitions:

  • Participation in the 2024 Summer Deaflympics
  • Hosted Africa qualifiers for international deaf football tournaments
  • Development of regional leagues across Kenya
  • Talent identification and nurturing programs

Impact

With the increasing number of talented young Deaf people facing lives of poverty, exploitation and despair there is need to invest or support them. As we face the fact that lack of white collar jobs has led to the increase in vices committed by the youth in the society, this calls for the need to partner with their future.

DFFK provides an avenue for Deaf youth to channel their energies positively, develop skills, and represent Kenya on international platforms.
